This Wed., 5/16: Mujeres de la Tierra @ LA Greens mtg

At the next LA Greens meeting, Irma Muñoz of Mujeres De La Tierra will speak about "Why traditional environmental leaders need to learn the language of community." (Updated: Download the bilingual flyer for this event.)

From Utne Reader:
Muñoz started Mujeres de la Tierra after a local news story on environmental issues in Latino neighborhoods failed to feature any interviews with Latinos. The Los Angeles-based group banded together with Latino soccer enthusiasts, law experts, and others to form Alianza de los Pueblos del Rio. The aim of this umbrella organization is to get the Latino voice heard in the effort to revitalize the Los Angeles River, which, George writes, is "a symbolic and literal convergence of a myriad of issues confronting LA's Latino population." With an inverse correlation between pollution exposure and access to parks and open spaces, the mujeres have adopted the river's resurrection as their hope for a greener future and a healthier environment for their children.
The Los Angeles Greens meet the third Wednesday of every month at 7PM at The Peace Center, 8124 W. Third St., Los Angeles, CA 90048. Meetings are free (donations accepted) and open to the public. Children are welcome. Parking is available behind the building.

This "group" is the invention of Munoz and William Funderburk the attorney for a toxic polluting iron foundry in El Monte.

The real environmental group with the same name in Austin, Texas had never heard of this "group" when I called them in March 2007. As has no one in the El Monte City Hall or School District or any of the legitimate Environmental Justice groups: California Communities Against Toxics, California Environmental Rights Alliance or Communities for a Better Environment.

Munoz is a paid shill for a massively polluting corporation. Dig into this story and join the real community in protest of this horrid pollution next Wednesday, August 29th from 8 to 10 am at Gregg Industries, 10460 Hickson St., El Monte 91731.
